Senior Loss Control Specialist (Workers Compensation)

The Senior Loss Control Specialist provides expert risk management solutions and loss control services to policyholders, identifying potential hazards and risks within the workplace, assessing safety protocols, and implementing strategies to minimize accidents or injuries and mitigate workers' compensation claims. The role involves providing insights to Underwriting, collaborating with policyholders to enhance safety culture, and traveling extensively by car, plane, or train. What We’re Looking For
Must live in the San Diego area. Essential Responsibilities
Manages assigned book of business in a given territory; ensures service plans are in place and Underwriting is informed of progress. Schedules and completes onsite visits, evaluating workplace environments, identifying risks, and producing documentation of findings and recommendations. Monitors policyholder loss activity and develops loss reduction strategies. Applies technical knowledge to assist policyholders in improving safety and loss control; provides consultative and training services. Serves as a subject matter expert and training resource for internal partners and external customers; conducts onsite training. Maintains professional designations and certifications required for the territory. Participates in departmental initiatives and performs special assignments and projects. Required Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health & Sciences, Engineering, or related discipline. Valid U.S. Driver’s License. Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Ergonomist (CE), or Masters-level certification; OSHA 10 or 30 preferred. Experience
Minimum seven years providing loss control or occupational‑related safety services, preferably with a workers’ compensation carrier. Experience developing, implementing, and auditing safety management systems. Experience applying high‑level investigation techniques and protocols in complex work environments. Experience using analytical tools such as Fishbone, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis. Experience developing emergency response plans. Technical Skills
Expert knowledge of OSH regulations and industry standards. Ability to conduct complex risk assessments and develop risk management strategies. Proficiency with safety management systems (e.g., OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001). Knowledge of equipment, machinery, processes, and hazards in manufacturing, construction, healthcare, and service industries. Expertise in developing emergency response plans. Data analysis and reporting skills; ability to collect, analyze, and interpret safety data. Knowledge of office operations, workflow analysis, and current telecommunications technologies. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other proprietary software. Additional Qualifications
Critical thinking, adaptability, proactive and inquisitive approach, ability to derive conclusions. Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to analyze technical and legal documents, respond to inquiries, and present information clearly.
