Legal Counsel Legal Counsel provides high quality operations and business‑oriented legal advice to various business units in relation to the company’s U.S. leasehold position and exploration and production projects.
Responsibilities
Drafts, analyzes and interprets oil and gas leases and other contracts related to oil and gas operations such as joint operating agreements, surface use agreements, master service agreements, and commercial contracts.
Supports various business units by managing the full lifecycle of contracts essential to oil and gas operations, ensuring compliance and mitigating operational and legal risk.
Reviews, analyzes and interprets title opinions and title instruments.
Assists the General Counsel with various projects and ongoing issues, including drafting, analyzing, and interpreting transaction documents, legal research and writing, and support for litigation matters.
Represents the business unit in various meetings and committees as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four‑year college or university.
0-3 years related experience; minimum of a Juris Doctorate; additional legal, land, and/or oil and gas industry experience will be positively considered.
Admitted to practice law, in good standing and a member of the Texas State Bar.
Experience with mineral leasehold agreements including joint operating agreements, production handling agreements and other related contracts.
Pragmatic approach to legal advice, with emphasis on ensuring ethical, legal, and safe operations and contracting practices.
Must possess a fundamental understanding Microsoft Office suite.
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
Ability to write clearly and persuasively.
Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects effectively and meet deadlines.
