This Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Technical Manager (Geology) to join our Environmental Services team in Greensboro, NC. In this leadership role, you will provide technical expertise, strategic guidance, and business development support while overseeing the delivery of high-quality environmental consulting services for both public and private clients. You will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing projects focused on hydrogeological characterization, environmental assessments, and regulatory compliance. With strong program management and communication skills, you will engage directly with clients, agencies, the public, and internal teams to ensure successful outcomes. As a key contributor to both strategy and execution, you will drive client and project management excellence, ensuring that all responsibilities are delivered to industry-leading standards of quality, safety, and integrity.

Your Impact

Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to prevent, control, remedy, or clean-up chemical and environmental concerns related to State and Federal regulations

Represent WSP USA with professionalism in interactions with clients, regulators, and subcontractors

Ensure compliance with company, client, and site Health & Safety standards

Support the Service Line in achieving sales and profit goals while maintaining integrity, safety, quality, and operational excellence

Lead proposal development efforts and collaborating with project managers, technical specialists, and marketing teams to deliver high-quality projects

Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying new opportunities through WSP’s Client Account Management program

Partner with project managers and staff locally and nationally to support environmental investigation and restoration projects, expanding WSP’s market share

Oversee and guide cross-functional teams in project execution

Develop a client base for high-level environmental services and identify business development opportunities

Mentor staff to support their professional growth and development

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures, and promote WSP’s strong Health and Safety culture.

Who You Are Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline

10+ years of experience working as a Geologist

Professional Geologist (PG) license in North Carolina, with ability to obtain licensure in other states as needed

Demonstrated success in proposal writing, project management, and business development

Strong knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulatory programs, including solid waste, in NC, SC, TN, and VA

Experience across multiple markets including federal, solid waste, industrial, commercial, energy, and transportation

Familiarity with assessment and remediation technologies for varied site settings and contaminants such as chlorinated solvents, inorganics, and emerging contaminants

Proven expertise in feasibility evaluation, remedial design, remedial action, and long-term operation and maintenance of remediation systems

Effective organizational, communication, and technical writing skills

Extensive experience mentoring junior staff and conducting technical and quality control reviews

Proficiency in planning, procurement, and project execution using project management and accounting systems to track metrics

Strong record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with company health, safety, and conduct policies

Ability to work independently while providing leadership and guidance to project teams, with strict adherence to QA/QC standards

Strong interpersonal skills to interact persuasively and tactfully with employees at all levels, project managers, clients, and sector-wide staff

Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment and manage responsibilities under pressure

Willingness to travel occasionally depending on project-specific requirement

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, or a related discipline

Additional professional licensure or certifications

OSHA 40-Hour Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER, 29 CFR 1910.120)

Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training
