Candidate must be licensed in CT:
Litigation experience:
Handling defense of Bodily Injury Auto, Bodily Injury Commercial, Bodily Injury Homeowners, Commercial Auto, Commercial Property, Complex Commercial, Premises Liability, Products Liability, Property Damage, Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist and Wrongful Death claims preferred.
Admission:
Federal court a plus; admission to RI and/or MA also a plus but not required.
Work arrangement:
Hybrid in‑office “Success Flex” at the Rocky Hill, CT Trial Division office.
Job Description Summary Nationwide Trial Division is a national team with approximately 40 offices across six regions in the United States. Senior Trial Attorneys are seasoned litigation attorneys with significant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation. As a Senior Trial Attorney, you’ll independently lead counsel for claims under commercial and personal lines insurance policies and collaborate with the broader team as needed.
Caseloads vary in complexity, severity, product lines, and specialized concentrations throughout all courts and agencies in the assigned jurisdiction(s). You’ll maintain a highly productive case volume that reflects our commitment to innovative thinking, effective collaboration, technology adoption, and proactive case management.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate strong trial advocacy skills as lead counsel or in a team setting, managing cases efficiently and maintaining high‑quality work product.
Operate with minimal managerial oversight; guide core duties independently.
Utilize technology and collaborate with support staff to ensure efficient case management.
Stay current with changes to law, technology, local rules, and other procedural requirements that impact liability and recovery litigation strategies.
Maintain subject‑matter expertise in all NTD concentrations held; develop additional or new concentrations as required.
Provide factually, legally, and analytically sound opinions on case valuations and client communication.
Build strong professional relationships with key associates within the Office of the Chief Legal Officer and claims partners at all levels.
Leverage relationships to improve NTD’s reputation and expand case referral opportunities.
Communicate effectively with clients, claims, and internal NTD stakeholders, meeting expectations in both written and verbal formats.
Serve as a mentor for junior attorneys and NTD staff, providing guidance, coaching, and fostering collaboration.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships Reports to Managing Trial Attorney.
Typical Skills & Experiences
Education:
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
License/Certification:
Maintain an active license in the state in which the position is located.
Experience:
Typically more than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
Significant litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation; strong written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with staff and attorneys onsite and remotely; leadership and mentoring skills; negotiation skills; analytical and legal skills; computer proficiency; adaptability to legal and technological changes; time‑management and organizational skills; decision‑making ability; ability to coordinate complex projects and cases; ethical compliance with state and corporate policies; acknowledgment of corporate and NTD policies.

Normal office environment; position may be staffed working from home; frequent travel, occasional overnight travel; extended hours often required.
