Reports To and Evaluated by Associate Dean of Adult & Career Technical Education

Required Qualifications BA degree in education or related field, demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English. Training of coursework in second language instructional methodology.

Must be able to demonstrate the Morton College core values of truth, compassion, fairness, responsibility, and respect.

Preferred Qualifications MA in TESOL or related field, three years of teaching ESL , knowledge of a second language, completion of at least 3 instructional workshops in ESL .

Job Summary Teach beginning, intermediate, and/or advanced levels of English as a Second Language. Attend staff development activities and submit data on student attendance and progress as required.

Specific Job Duties

Utilize departmental syllabus template, approved textbooks, and supplemental course materials.

Submit personalized course syllabus to Deans’ Office in electronic format one (1) week prior to course start date.

Design and implement educational activities that assist ESL students in meeting their goals.

Use a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Use multiple assessment measures to evaluate student learning.

Submit attendance records and student progress records as required.

Maintain a plan for continued professional growth and document results.

Provide documentation of completion of required professional development activities.

Provides support by sending reproduction requests to the Copy Center.

Submit supplies/materials to Adult Education Staff.

Submit technology equipment requests to Adult Education Staff.

Adhere to printed course schedule meeting times and locations.

Maintain grade book in electronic or hard copy format.

Take and record student Attendance each day.

Respond to e-mails from students, staff, and college administrators in a timely manner while classes are in session using assigned college designated e-mail.

Check assigned college mailbox regularly.

Maintain FERPA standards.

Provide information and/or data as needed for educational, funding, and/or accrediting agencies.

Substitute for colleagues when necessary.

Follow the academic calendar as approved by Morton College.

Participate in the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of the Program.

Check assigned college mailbox regularly.

Attend campus-wide and department professional development and/or trainings.
