The Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging coordinates, directs, and supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging programs and initiatives at the school. The Director organizes and coordinates all OEIB-related initiatives under one umbrella. Every Maret faculty member is responsible for creating a community that is equitable and inclusive and works in concert with the Director across all departments and divisions.
The Director will oversee the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (OEIB) and its projects and initiatives. The Director supports opportunities to champion new ideas, collaborate across constituencies, support ongoing affinity work, and develop and oversee anti-racism and anti-bias practices and policies in conjunction with faculty and other school leaders. The Director also coordinates relevant programming and events for students, faculty, families, and alumni. The Director oversees and supports the intensive onboarding seminar experience for faculty known as Deepening the Discussion about Race, Ethnicity, and Identity. This position reports to the Associate Head for Program. The Director will serve on the Head of School Team (HOST), the Lower School Leadership Team, and, as needed, attend other standing meetings (with division directors, department chairs, grade deans, advisors, etc.).
Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to and passion for equity, inclusion, and belonging in all facets of their work.
Responsibilities:
Develop, with other school leaders, programs and protocols to ensure that Maret is safe, welcoming, and affirming
Review our current practices and programming
Collaborate across the school community to ensure equitable practices in admission, institutional research, development, hiring, pedagogy, student life, and communications
Develop the school’s efforts to include restorative practices in its everyday work with students, including providing professional development training for faculty
Supervise the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, an office that includes several team members that span the school’s divisions and offices
Coordinate affinity groups among students, faculty, parents, and guardians, including the white anti-racist faculty group (AWARE).
Oversee, and in collaboration with others, implement the Center Belonging priority of the 2025 Strategic Plan: Advancing with Purpose
Support students and faculty with problem‑solving and conflict resolution through an equity lens
Support students and faculty in vetting speakers, displays, and performances to ensure that multiple identities are celebrated and many voices are represented in a way that is mission‑aligned and respectful of all community members
Serve as a resource to the Maret Parents Association’s Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Liaison in the development of annual events, speaker series, and focus groups
In collaboration with others, design Maret’s bias incident reporting system; manage, process, monitor, and coordinate the system once designed
The successful candidate will:
Be adept at effectively engaging, communicating, and presenting while demonstrating professionalism, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to manage issues that are sensitive and challenging
Have extensive training in anti‑bias, inclusion, and diversity work within K‑12 school settings
Present periodically to student groups, faculty, families, and the Board of Trustees; offer training that helps to ensure alignment with Maret’s mission
Regularly attend professional development programming to stay abreast of current trends and practices in the field
Demonstrate a reparative mindset when there is a breach of community trust
Have a master’s degree in a related field (preferred)
Competitive salary and benefits. Salary range will be between: $135,000 - $175,000, dependent on years of experience and qualifications.
