Trinity Capital Inc., a leading provider of diversified financial solutions to growth stage companies and internally managed BDC, is looking for an experienced professional to join its world‑class team as the Associate Director, Credit & Portfolio – Life Sciences team in San Diego. Job Description
The Associate Director, Credit will be responsible for credit underwriting for prospective new portfolio companies. The successful candidate will have at least four years of directly applicable credit experience and will be closely familiar with performance metrics from a wide variety of industries and business models. This full‑time position will report to the Managing Director. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, as the role requires ongoing collaboration with Origination team members and regular presentations to the Trinity Investment Committee. This position offers the candidate exposure to leading venture capital investors, and a wide cross‑section of emerging growth companies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collect and review submitted data from prospective portfolio companies; work with Originations team and Client Company management to address any gaps or deficiencies
Evaluate and summarize financial data from prospective client companies; identify key assumptions and trends, and highlight any inconsistencies
Work closely with the Originations team on the assessment of new opportunities and clearly communicate recommendations for accept / reject decisions; assist in developing ideas for transaction structure
Research industry drivers and opportunities; assess potential impact of key value drivers on business plan assumptions
Conduct deep‑dives analyses of prospective client companies’ financial results, forecasts, business plans, intellectual property, collateral, etc.
Participate in the due diligence process, including calls with client company’s executive management, investors, and customers, as well as on‑site visits when appropriate
Prepare investment committee presentation material and present analysis results to Credit Team peers and Investment Committee in a clear and concise manner

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline, preferably Finance
A minimum of four (4) years of industry experience in a relevant role, such as investment banking, accounting, or consulting
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling
Strong familiarity with financial reports: income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow
Familiarity with and general understanding of the various aspects of business operations; e.g. sales, marketing, product development, production, etc.
Ability to multi‑task and work in a fast‑paced environment with firm deadlines
Strong and confident communication skills; meticulous attention to detail
Desired Requirements
MBA or MS Finance
Experience interfacing with attorneys and the negotiation of contracts
Familiarity with the terms of venture equity investing and capital structure
Familiarity with the key aspects of life sciences transactions
Personal network of entrepreneurs, investment bankers and financial sponsors
Experience in distressed financing situations
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, talk, utilize a computer, and read computer screens for extended periods of time
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

The annual base salary range for this position is
$130,000 – $180,000 , depending on experience and qualifications. This role may also be eligible for performance‑based bonuses and restricted stock awards.
