Overview The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a key member of the New Product Development (NPD) and Engineered-to-Order (ETO) engineering teams, working on complex wafer processing equipment that is used to manufacture advanced semiconductors, LEDs, displays, photonics, VCSELs, power electronics, compound semiconductors, hard disk drives, MEMS and wireless chips. This role involves overall system design, automation/robotics, vacuum vessel design, heat transfer, gas and vapor delivery, incorporation of OEM power supplies and controllers, as well as many other engineering and design areas.

Responsibilities

Define mechanical design specifications based on customer requirements and company capabilities

Handle all mechanical design aspects of the equipment, subassemblies and components as assigned

Work with team members on product development projects for vacuum process equipment

Provide mechanical engineering expertise, while focusing on design quality, reliability, effective cost, and ease of manufacturing

Perform analytical studies and theoretical calculations, requiring a variety of engineering knowledge, including analysis of vacuum vessels, heat transfer, material properties, structural analysis, static and dynamic, fluids, and motion mechanisms

Ensure that manufacturing processes are compliant with standard design practices and safety codes; ensure appropriate tests are in place to produce reliable products in a repeatable manner

Prepare presentations and present design concepts, ideas, and test results to internal and external customers

Actively participate in all design review and provide expertise and input into the mechanical engineering elements of the design

Support procurement efforts to meet overall project deadlines

Provide “hands on” assistance and support to the manufacturing team as needed

Develop test plans and design of experiments and have direct involvement in prototype development and testing

Create and release engineering documentation through the ECO process

Support Program Management with project flow through the PLC Phase gates

Qualifications BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience designing or manufacturing capital equipment, vacuum systems, subassemblies, or components or an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6 years of related experience is required. MS degree preferred. Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD, or similar 3D CAD systems is required as is experience with finite element analysis, both structural and thermal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Able to take initiative, own full projects and/or lead a small project team

Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment

General knowledge of electrical and software engineering disciplines

Ability to work in an environment with a high level of technological complexity

Must be hands‑on with devices, prototyping, and troubleshooting

Experience with high temperature/low pressure semiconductor system development is a plus

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including specification development; ability to make technical presentations and interface with all levels of management, suppliers, and customers

Knowledge of industrial control systems, sensors, automation, robotics, instrumentation, motion control, motor selection, encoders, electronic packaging

Knowledge of SEMI regulatory standards

Project management experience is a plus

Experience with SAP or similar PLM system

Proficient with Microsoft Office suite

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to customer sites and/or supplier facilities on an as‑needed basis

Salary and Benefits The expected salary range for this position is $115,000-$147,000, plus a bonus opportunity.
