Early Career Structural Transportation Engineer WSP is inviting a full‑time Early Career Structural Transportation Engineer to join our South Jordan, UT office. The role will support the Transportation Team on bridge and infrastructure projects, providing technical assistance from design concept through construction documentation while maintaining high industry standards for safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

Responsibilities

Collect, compile, and analyze data from site surveys, blueprints, GIS maps, and geotechnical reports to support project development and design.

Conduct basic professional structural engineering work, including research, inspections, and submission of site condition data to ensure compliance with applicable rules and standards.

Perform routine engineering functions and assist with entry‑level design requirements to address safety and user functionality.

Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance to maintain structural soundness against environmental or human loads.

Generate accurate documentation using electronic systems, drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and work‑site logs.

Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures, including engineering studies, surveys, and construction protocols.

Complete training on assigned tasks and exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or closely related discipline).

0 to 1 year of relevant post‑education experience.

Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.

Familiarity with design/build processes and relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.

Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.

Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization of responsibilities.

Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.

Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets, and technology tools.

Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, ANSYS, STADD).

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.

Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Engineer in Training certification.

Master’s of Science in Structural or Civil Engineering or intent to pursue.

Prior internship related to the degree of study and specific engineering discipline.

Active membership in local professional practice organizations.
