What You’ll Do
Act as a strong advocate for policyholders in first-party property insurance matters, including coverage disputes, claim denials, and bad faith claims. Analyze insurance policies, claims files, correspondence, and other documentation to assess coverage issues and develop legal strategies. Conduct comprehensive legal research and stay current on state and federal property insurance laws, regulations, and case precedents. Manage a diverse litigation caseload involving first-party property claims, including drafting pleadings, motions, and other legal documents. Negotiate with insurance carriers, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders to resolve disputes and secure favorable outcomes for clients. Represent clients in hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials, demonstrating persuasive advocacy and litigation skills. Provide clear, strategic legal counsel to clients, educating them on their rights and responsibilities under their insurance policies. Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and legal staff in a team-oriented environment to ensure high-quality client service and case outcomes. Assist in business development and marketing initiatives to expand the firm's footprint in the Seattle region.
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Active license to practice law in Washington state or California. Minimum of 7 years of litigation experience, ideally with a focus on first-party property insurance law. Proven track record in client relationship development and new business generation. Strong negotiation, legal analysis, and trial advocacy skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Demonstrated ability to manage litigation independently and efficiently. Commitment to client advocacy and high professional ethics.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications
Dual-barred in both Washington and California. Experience in business development within the legal or insurance sector. Familiarity with insurance carrier negotiation practices and tactics. Prior experience with mediation and arbitration in complex property disputes.
Additional Guidelines
This position must not include the client’s name in any candidate documentation (e.g., RTR or consent forms). Candidates with experience at Merlin Law Group or other no-poach firms will not be considered.
Interview Process
Two rounds: Virtual interview with legal leadership. Final in-person or virtual panel interview. Background check required prior to final offer.
