Role Overview A growing electrical services and field engineering organization is seeking a skilled

Protective Relay Engineer / Technician

to support testing, commissioning, and maintenance of low and medium voltage protection systems. This position involves creating protective relay program files, interpreting coordination studies, and performing secondary injection testing in field environments.

Approximately 50% travel is required for project and customer site work.

Key Responsibilities

Create and configure protective relay program files, including logic, settings, alarms, and communication schemes.

Read, interpret, and apply electrical coordination studies to ensure proper protection and system performance.

Perform secondary injection testing on protective relays, validating system behavior and trip functions.

Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities for protective relay systems.

Work with a variety of relay platforms;

SEL (Schweitzer) relay experience is highly preferred.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field service teams to produce accurate documentation and test reports.

Travel to project sites (~50% of the time) to conduct testing, commissioning, and client support.

Maintain strict adherence to safety standards, quality procedures, and professional conduct in all field environments.

Required / Preferred Qualifications

Hands‑on experience performing secondary injection testing on protective relays.

Ability to create relay program files and interpret logic diagrams, settings, and system coordination studies.

Strong knowledge of electrical protection principles, low/medium voltage systems, and breaker trip schemes.

Proficiency with SEL relays is preferred; experience with other relay manufacturers is also valuable.

Strong problem‑solving skills, communication abilities, and technical documentation writing.

Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% for field service assignments.

Technical trade school training, engineering technology background, or electrical engineering degree is a plus.
