Job Summary Supervises and participates in the operation of the bailer and forklift; assists in selling rags and shoes; maintains the orderliness of the dock and dumpster area; maintains vehicles; repairs furniture and evaluates appliances in order to determine repairs needed and if materials can be sold in the Thrift/Family Store. Essential Functions Supervises and participates in the bailing and storing of rags; ensures the bailer is operated in a safe manner at all times. Supervises and participates in the handling of materials processed from the store to be bailed. Evaluates appliances and other donated materials which have value in order to determine if materials are suitable for repair and can be sold through the Thrift/Family Store. Assists in selling rags and shoes to the company offering the highest market value. Ensures that all premises are secured at the end of the workday and keeps them clear of trash and debris. Monitors dumpster pick-ups to ensure they are timely and that dumpsters do not overflow. Operates a forklift and trains/certifies others. Maintains vehicles and arranges for regular servicing. Performs heavy lifting of articles up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. Recycles cardboard boxes and cuts cardboard for use with the bailer machine. Stores shoes in designated storage areas. Collects and empties trash for the warehouse area. Assists in maintaining cleanliness of the warehouse area; sweeps floors and cleans bathrooms. Monitors warehouse entrances and dock area to deter theft. Repairs furniture. Other Responsibilities Assists in the pick-up of donations from the public as the schedule necessitates. Maintains the neatness and orderliness of the store, warehouse, and dock areas. Performs other related work as required. Materials and Equipment Bailer Fork Lift Truck Wheel Cart Hand‑Held & Power Tools Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or G.E.D. One year of experience working in a warehouse environment or equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and Certifications Certified Fork Lift Operator Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to sort and determine the suitability of donated items. Ability to ensure warehouse and dock areas and equipment are maintained in a neat, orderly, and secure manner. Ability to drive a heavy‑duty truck. Ability to follow instructions and work independently. Mental and Physical Abilities Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Ability to lift and carry light objects ( Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy materials (25‑50 lbs) frequently. Ability to lift heavy materials (50‑100 lbs) occasionally; work requires walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Moderate mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis; travel distance is usually within the same building. Working Conditions Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or noise, dust, dirt, and related factors. Work requires driving a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors.
