We focus on how readers experience our journalism—print, audio, digital, and app—while our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
About The Role Wirecutter, the product review and shopping guide arm of The New York Times Company, seeks an experienced product manager to lead strategy and execution of top‑of‑funnel growth. In this role, you will navigate search, discovery, and AI‑driven platforms, guide the Audience Growth team, and nurture growth loops to expand audience reach and deepen engagement. You will report to Wirecutter’s Product Director of Growth.
Responsibilities
Strategic Growth Planning: Create product plans focused on driving exponential top‑of‑funnel user growth, retention, and conversion, balancing organic/technical SEO with paid search initiatives and adapting to latest channels like AEO and AGO.
Prioritization for Growth: Guide prioritization by building business cases that weigh bottom‑line impact on key growth metrics, deciding when to deep‑dive versus incremental progress.
Technical SEO & AI‑Driven Growth: Partner with SEO experts, frontend engineers, and engineering partners to define and execute a roadmap optimizing Core Web Vitals, robots.txt, domain handling, and platform scalability.
AI Strategy & Experimentation: Use AI tooling to amplify planning, efficiency, and execution in product management, SEO, and growth. Work with engineering and design to make build vs. buy vs. hybrid decisions, implementing A/B testing and growth loop optimization.
Scope Management: Break large projects into smaller, actionable scopes to mitigate delivery risk and deliver near‑term and long‑term value.
Communication & Alignment: Manage up, down, and cross‑functional teams to uphold understanding and alignment.
Design & User Experience: Partner with design to deliver intuitive reader experiences prioritizing features that enable quick discovery of Wirecutter’s value, minimizing friction and maximizing top‑of‑funnel engagement.
Growth Loop Implementation: Lead integration efforts between Wirecutter and The New York Times’ tooling and platforms.
Bridge Product & Marketing: Connect external marketing efforts with the internal product experience.
Demonstrate support and understanding of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission of seeking truth and helping people understand the world.
