Responsibilities:
Make repairs to aircraft under direction of higher‑graded workers.
Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces, controls, anti‑icing, pneumatic, hydraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures such as wings and fuselage, and functional components using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
Read and interpret manufacturers’ and airlines’ maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and methods of repair or replacement.
Replace or repair worn or damaged components (carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine‑mounted gearboxes, compressor bleed valves), remove engines using hoist or forklift, disassemble and inspect parts for wear, cracks, security or defects, repair or replace engine parts, and reassemble and install engine.
Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories; perform preflight, thru‑flight, and post‑flight maintenance inspections; flush crankcases, clean screens and filters, grease moving parts, and check brakes.
Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft; enter maintenance records; verify work satisfactorily; service engines and airframe components at line station; specialize in structural, precision, functional spare parts, assemblies, and engine repair.
May be required to be licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration.
May require specialization in sheet metal, electric work, avionics, or other aircraft systems disciplines.
Qualifications:
All aircraft mechanics must have aviation mechanic experience, not just general maintenance experience.
Desirable experience working on UH‑60, HH‑60, AH‑64, CH‑47, and/or UH‑72 aircraft series; military experience is a plus.
One Aircraft Mechanic Level I with Engine/Flexible Engine Diagnostic System (FEDS) Operator experience and ability to function as a FEDS operator.
Perform diagnostic tests and repairs on GE 700 Series and T55 series engines, and engines in the US Army rotary ACFT inventory utilizing FEDS and all technical references.
Perform all phases of acceptance testing of turbine engines, including components, and certify test results in accordance with engine performance technical manuals.
Perform scheduled inspections, services, repairs, modifications, and troubleshooting of the FEDS system.
Maintain all safety and health requirements; track operations; assist in calibration/correlation of FEDS; order required components.
Maintain data sheets and other required forms for FEDS maintenance and calibration.
Provide reports required by facility, NGB, or Redstone/AMCOM regarding engine performance, maintenance requirements, completion status, etc.
