Job Description

Inova Alexandria Hospital is looking for a dedicated experienced registered nurse to join the Med/Surg Unit team. This role will be full‑time, 3‑12 hour day shifts (days vary, including some weekend shifts) from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance are eligible.

Inova Alexandria's Hospital Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is an adult 52‑bed neurological/cardiac telemetry unit. Nursing care is provided to medical, neurologic (acute stroke, rule‑out stroke, TIA) and cardiac patients in all phases of their disease process. Each room is equipped with oxygen, compressed air and vacuum outlets. The patient population is 18 years old and older with a patient‑to‑nurse ratio of 4‑5 to 1.

Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Job Responsibilities

Performs comprehensive patient health assessments.

Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings.

Conducts all patient care in a patient and family‑centered manner.

Advocates for patients’ rights and provides counsel.

Coordinates resources from all disciplines and healthcare services for patient/family transition planning.

Documents all patient care activities per standards.

Evaluates processes, anticipates patient variances and revises plans of care.

Makes clinical decisions and promotes clinical decision‑making development of all team members.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an associate’s degree (ADN), must complete BSN within 5 years.

Experience: Minimum 1‑year registered nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting.

Certification: Licensed Registered Nurse in Virginia or holding privilege to practice in Virginia under the eNLC. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider required upon start.
