Surgical Technician Contingent Rotate
at
Children’s Hospital of Michigan . Under direct supervision, perform a variety of duties in the OR and related areas to assist the surgical team.
Responsibilities
Scrub on all types of operating procedures; handle surgical instruments, sutures & sponges; anticipate the needs of the surgeon and assist as necessary. Maintain strict aseptic technique and cooperate with the circulating nurse to ensure all instruments are accounted for during and after the operation.
Prepare for scheduled operative procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments and supplies are available and ready for use.
Maintain a clean and safe OR environment by cleaning rooms, sterilizing equipment, restocking supplies and assisting in updating surgical instrument sets. Maintain power equipment and specialty instrumentation within assigned specialty areas.
Assist in the transportation of patients to and from the OR; verify patient identity and assist with lifting and positioning of the patient for surgical procedures.
May assist as second circulator under the direction of a registered nurse. Prepare materials for departmental in-service education programs as assigned. Assist in the trial and evaluation of new surgical products. Provide input to managers in developing new policies and procedures for the department. Participate on committees as assigned.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and completed an accredited surgical technician training program or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists highly desirable.
One to two years experience as a surgical technician preferred.
