Region Chief Medical Officer - California CommonSpirit Health seeks a dynamic California Regional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to architect and execute clinical strategy, drive transformative clinical care, champion physician engagement, and partner across disciplines to achieve operational efficiency aligned with our mission.

Job Summary And Responsibilities The CMO will be the principal driver for clinical performance, implementing evidence-based medicine, spearheading patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, overseeing physician credentialing, privileging, and performance, and ensuring compliance with TJC, CMS, and the California Department of Public Health. The role will lead strategic quality initiatives for patient access/satisfaction, provider engagement, clinical outcomes, and comprehensive process transformation, while fostering relationships among physicians, administration, and community stakeholders. The CMO will collaborate with the regional chief nursing officer to forge a shared vision for safety, quality, patient experience, and utilization management, integrating physicians and APPs into CommonSpirit Health’s core direction to optimize market position and pursue growth opportunities in population health-oriented service lines. The executive will lead high‑impact safety and quality collaboratives, catalyze multidisciplinary work groups, and ensure an exceptional patient experience, articulating a compelling clinical vision that aligns with the operating model to revolutionize care delivery.

Job Requirements Education and Experience

MD or DO degree with Board Certification in a medical or surgical specialty. Postgraduate management degree (MBA, MHA, or similar) preferred. Experience in an employed physician group preferred.

Five (5) to seven (7) years of leadership experience in a multi‑hospital system or integrated delivery network as CMO.

Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience in a specialty and at least five (5) years of management experience in health care.

Licensure

Current, active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in at least one U.S. state or territory and current Board Certification in a specialty. If clinically active, the license and certification must be current in the state where the facility operates.

Pay Range $308.90 - $432.46 /hour
