Senior Data Scientist – Numerical Weather Prediction

EarthDaily Analytics (EDA) is the EarthDaily Constellation, a global change detection system that combines Earth observation, software engineering, machine learning and cloud computing. We are looking for a technical expert who can bridge advanced atmospheric science with commercial applications and help launch a frontier product. Responsibilities

Perform statistical validation of operational weather models (GFS, GEFS, CFS, ECMWF IFS, ERA5) using GRIB2, NetCDF and NEMSIO datasets. Develop and maintain scalable pipelines for ingesting, processing and analysing large meteorological archives. Design, prototype and deploy AI‑based forecasting models (transformers, graph neural networks) and probabilistic ensembles. Integrate production‑grade Python code and MLOps best practices into the EDA code base and deploy to AWS using CDK and infrastructure‑as‑code. Communicate complex forecasting concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences, collaborating with sales and product teams to translate customer needs into solutions. Qualifications

Master’s or Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Climate Science or related quantitative field. 5–8 years of experience in weather forecasting or climate modeling, with 3+ years of production‑level Python development. Proven skill in forecast verification, model evaluation and statistical analysis of numerical weather prediction systems. Experience processing large GRIB2/NetCDF/NEMSIO datasets and deploying machine learning models in production environments. Strong portfolio of weather data analysis, visualization and modeling projects. Core Technical Skills

Python (expert), NumPy, Pandas, xarray, Dask, SciPy, scikit‑learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow. GRIB2, NetCDF, NEMSIO data processing libraries (cfgrib, pygrib, wgrib2). AWS cloud services (S3, EC2, Lambda, SageMaker, ECS) and CDK or Terraform for infrastructure‑as‑code. MLOps: model versioning, experiment tracking, monitoring, automated retraining, CI/CD pipelines. Statistical verification methods (RMSE, MAE, ACC, bias, skill scores) and hypothesis testing. Compensation

Base Salary Range: $145,000 – $180,000 USD annually (Minneapolis‑derived). Competitive benefits, flexible time off and the opportunity to work remotely from the US or Canada. Benefits

Competitive salary and flexible time off. Meaningful mission in a leading space and Earth observation company. Remote work with a global, collaborative team. Professional growth and continuous learning opportunities.
