The Psychiatrist serves as a member of an interdisciplinary care team and performs psychiatric evaluations, evaluation and management services, care coordination, assessments, consultations, medication management, and follow-up appointments for adults, and older adults with mental disorders including substance use disorders.

Please note:

While this position is primarily office-based, it may be eligible for some remote work flexibility. On-call is required on a rotation basis.

Provide direct clinical care by conducting psychiatric evaluations, evaluation and management services, care coordination assessments, medication management, in adolescents, adults and older adults.

Assess and diagnose according to the criteria outlined in the most recently published Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Coordinate integrated care with internal and external providers of mental health, physical health, and substance use disorders.

Order and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests as deemed clinically appropriate.

Prescribe psychotropic medications including, controlled substance, and other classifications of medications as deemed clinically appropriate and provide medication monitoring including individual compliance with medication regime, effects, and side effects.

Recommend and encourage the use of increase prescriptions for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders when clinically appropriate.

Provide education regarding chronic health conditions, disease processes, healthy lifestyle habits, vaccinations, and medication use (including risks, benefits, and side effects).

Provide consultation by participating in case reviews and recommending appropriate treatment approaches as warranted.

Serve on committees and contribute to the establishment of psychiatric programs, policies, and procedures as warranted.

Complete all required documentation completely, accurately, and in accordance with agency policy.

Meet direct service productivity and documentation standards per agency and service expectations.

Use motivational interviewing strategies to engage and provide service to individuals.

Utilize a trauma-informed approach to deliver services.

Travel off-site as needed for various opportunities including meetings, activities, and events.

Ensure that the CNS Healthcare standards of service are applied to interactions with individuals served, guests, and staff.

Participate in and promote departmental and agency quality improvement initiatives.

Assume responsibility for professional growth by engaging in activities such as reading and/or attending educational programs and conferences.

Maintain knowledge and compliance with applicable policies and procedures, codes of ethics, HIPAA standards, federal, state, and local laws/regulations, and other regulations.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Required

Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited School of Medicine

Active board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology -or- board eligible status.

Current, unrestricted, State of Michigan license to practice as a medical doctor.

Valid and unrestricted Michigan controlled substance license.

Prior clinical experience and demonstrated proficiency in medical management, crisis de-escalation, and behavior management techniques

Working knowledge of medical terminology used in a mental health setting

Proficient with computers and Microsoft office products

Proficient in the use of electronic health records (EHRs)

Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Ability to use discretion and judgment when handling matters of a sensitive or confidential nature

Advanced time management, problem solving, customer service, interpersonal, conflict resolution and skills

Ability to be forward thinking and take initiative to accomplish goals and objectives of the department

Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and courteously

Preferred

At least 1 year of experience as a licensed psychiatrist providing face-to-face, clinical services in any of the following settings: Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, Community Mental Health Center Psychiatric Hospital, State facility, Ambulatory Behavioral Health, Crisis Center, Substance Use Facility, Partial Hospital Program, Residential Program, or similar

Proficient with health registries including the Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS), PMP AWARxE Program, Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).

General knowledge of the community mental health system based on the Michigan Mental Health Code and MDHHS contracts
