As a Senior Software Engineer (Unreal), you will help build foundational prototypes and systems that enable Disney’s AI & XR Studio to accelerate creative innovation across The Walt Disney Company. Your focus will be on developing scalable tools and experiences that downstream teams can extend and adapt into broader production efforts. This role operates at the intersection of engineering and storytelling, providing foundational tools and experiences that empower partner teams to move faster and bolder with emerging technologies. You will own the technical direction and optimize stakeholder satisfaction for a collection of internally developed products in addition to architecting and delivering new software solutions, all while leveraging your expertise in Unreal and its accompanying toolset. You work closely with a cross-functional team of partners, including software, test, and automation engineers and creative teams to improve product performance. Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership across multiple prototypes and tools, focusing on building scalable foundations that downstream teams can expand upon, while maintaining strong momentum and project health. Provide guidance and support to team members to ensure alignment with creative vision and business goals. Conduct rigorous testing to identify and fix bugs or issues affecting product performance. Act as a technical owner for new tools or experiences, collaborating with stakeholders to define requirements, success metrics, and clear pathways for downstream teams. Build clear, modular documentation translating business and creative inputs into technical deliverables, enabling smooth handoffs and scalability. Architect cloud-native systems using modern infrastructure standards. Author, review, and maintain high-quality code. Collaborate with internal engineering teams and enterprise partners to deliver solutions that are adaptable, scalable, or integrable into downstream experiences. Mentor and develop junior team members. Design, develop, and maintain high-quality game code, features, and systems in collaboration with the development team. Implement and optimize gameplay mechanics, graphics rendering, AI algorithms, and networking systems for performance across platforms. Contribute to technical design discussions, identifying opportunities for innovation and process improvement. Work with cross-functional teams to integrate technical requirements and deliver high-quality games on schedule. Conduct code reviews, provide feedback, and mentor engineers to promote best practices. Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously enhance technical skills. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field. At least 5 years of experience in developing impactful software solutions. Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, C#, or Java. Experience with game engines; Unreal Engine proficiency is required, with additional knowledge of Unity or proprietary engines a plus. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration and technical discussions. Proven track record of interfacing with business and creative stakeholders to define requirements, propose solutions, and support products through prototypes. Strong project management skills. Passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers. The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $138,900.00-$186,200.00. The actual offer will consider internal equity, geographic location, skills, experience, and other factors.
