Ubuntu Core Software Engineer
to innovate the Linux experience for embedded environments with the smallest, most secure, and updatable operating system in the IoT market. This role is ideal for someone passionate about open source, Linux, security, and developer experience, requiring high technical skill in low-level operating systems, kernels, and device firmware. Our mission is to enable building robust solutions across IoT, automotive, aviation, and more, using our next-generation secure embedded Linux OS. We focus on reliable device recovery mechanisms to simplify and standardize field operations for diverse appliances. As part of the Ubuntu Core team, you'll design and implement software across various CPU architectures, including ARM, RISC-V, and x86, working on boot mechanisms, bootloaders, storage, device trees, kernels, and services. Writing high-quality code with unit tests for new features Debugging Linux system issues and fixing them Collaborating with a distributed team Reviewing code from peers Discussing ideas and solutions Integrating diverse bootloaders and maintaining gadget snaps Working from home with global travel 2-4 times a year Ideal candidates will have:
A passion for technology and collaboration Curiosity, flexibility, articulation, and accountability Soft skills such as passion, enterprise mindset, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or related field Experience with C, Golang, Shell scripting Solid understanding of Linux, preferably Debian or Ubuntu Experience with Linux-capable devices like Raspberry Pi Interest or experience in low-level systems and security facilities such as bootloaders, systemd, Linux security (TPM, FDE, LUKS, HSM) Knowledge of Yocto is a plus What we offer:
