HDR is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer for our Building Engineering Services Business Group in Chicago, IL. Our team offers integrated facility and infrastructure design services, including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural, and Civil Engineering. We serve diverse markets such as Tech/Media/Telecom, Commercial Real Estate, Healthcare, Science and Technology, Industrial, Water, Federal, and Mission Critical projects. We emphasize sustainable design and energy conservation. Responsibilities
Lead the production of design drawings, calculations, and specifications with high understanding and accuracy. Coordinate mechanical team efforts, mentor staff, uplift morale, and ensure quality control across multidisciplinary teams throughout project development. Engage with clients and the engineering community, building strong relationships with HDR leadership and external stakeholders. Participate in marketing, project planning, and represent HDR within the local industry. Key Duties
Establish client relations and participate in design and production meetings regarding mechanical systems. Assume mechanical lead roles on projects. Review projects for code compliance with governing agencies. Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document sessions at project sites alongside project teams. Manage workload and schedules to ensure timely delivery of documents. Monitor project finances and coordinate efforts to adhere to budgets and schedules. Collaborate with project managers and leadership for project reviews. Perform additional duties as required. Qualifications
Preferred
Master's degree in Architectural Engineering (Mechanical emphasis) or Mechanical Engineering. Experience with Healthcare, Science and Technology, or Civic facilities. Data Center design experience is a plus. Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. At least 10 years of mechanical system design experience in commercial or institutional buildings. Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD. Leadership skills with team coordination and project management experience. Experience with architectural/engineering consulting firms.
