Position Details: We seek a Principal Software Architect to lead the design of modular business capabilities within a complex enterprise ecosystem. The ideal candidate is fluent in product thinking, platform architecture, and scalable system design. Reporting to the Director of Architecture, Product Information Management and Product Discovery, this role is based in Chicago with a hybrid work model. Remote candidates willing to travel will also be considered. You Will: Architect and evolve core capabilities for Product Information Management and Discovery. Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to define, prototype, and iterate on services that deliver measurable outcomes. Design flexible, discoverable, and interoperable services across the enterprise. Provide guidance on data modeling, API design, service boundaries, and platform strategy. Influence engineering practices, promote reuse, and mentor engineers. Ensure interoperability with other domains like supply chain, customer experience, and merchandising. You Have: Experience functioning in a product-centric engineering culture. Proven ability to design and scale modular software capabilities for multiple teams. Strong understanding of enterprise architecture patterns such as domain-driven design, microservices, and event systems. Excellent collaboration skills to bridge product, data, and engineering teams. Effective communication skills across all levels. 12+ years in software development, with 3+ years in architectural leadership or senior staff roles.
