Base pay range $135,300.00/yr - $260,350.00/yr
Overview GEICO is seeking Claims Legal Counsel to join its Enterprise Litigation and Investigations Division. The Counsel will advise claims organizations on personal auto insurance coverage and claims‑related litigation, including bad faith and extra‑contractual matters.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide legal advice to the claims organization on complex personal auto insurance claims.
Conduct factual and legal research and analysis.
Review documents at the request of Legal Department management.
Develop and deliver in‑house presentations on research projects.
Basic Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
5‑7 years of litigation management experience at a law firm, government, or in‑house role.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Up‑to‑date understanding of key legal issues relevant to an organization.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non‑lawyers.
Proficiency in managing multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders.
Trial and/or appellate experience.
Experience working as a Claims Counsel or Claims Attorney at an insurance company.
Experience handling bad faith or extra‑contractual litigation against an insurance company.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in insurance coverage and litigation.
Experience working with cross‑functional teams, both legal and non‑legal.
Experience litigating and managing discovery in bad faith actions.
Hybrid In‑Office Work Schedule 3 days per week in office required. Off‑site work available from Chevy Chase, MD; New York, NY; Cleveland, OH.
