Banner University Medical Group – Tucson & University of Arizona Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics Faculty Position

Position Overview The University of Arizona – Department of Medical Imaging is seeking a Nuclear Medicine physician or fellowship‑trained radiologist to join the Division of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostic Center. The appointment rank is commensurate with experience.

Prospective candidates—Assistant, Associate, or full Professor—will hold an MD or DO degree with dedicated training in nuclear medicine, including board certification by ABNM and/or ABR/NR with ABNM eligibility, and be qualified or eligible to become an authorized user of radioisotopes. The candidate will be eligible for licensure in the State of Arizona.

The ideal applicant will possess expertise in all aspects of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging—including various PET tracers, radiopharmaceutical therapies, and procedures—from both clinical and scientific perspectives. They will bring a growth‑oriented, customer‑focused mindset and stewardship to the Department of Medical Imaging, Banner University Health, and the University of Arizona College of Medicine‑Tucson.

Candidates should have experience and passion for patient care, teaching, and supervising medical students, residents, and fellows, and the ability to work cooperatively within a diverse environment. Fundamental to the position is the ability to deliver outstanding collaborative patient care, advance the research mission of the department, and cultivate a learning environment for innovative education.

Job Responsibilities

Contribute to a strong academic division that provides comprehensive clinical service with a spirit of innovation as an engine for growth, value, and service.

Participate in weekday clinical work and weekday/weekend call coverage while ensuring timely, high‑quality clinical care.

Collaborate with colleagues to improve service and quality for the betterment of our patients.

Provide instruction for Residency, Fellowship, and Medical Student educational programs by preparing and administering lectures and reviewing cases.

Participate in interdisciplinary conferences and confer with other services concerning issues affecting Medical Imaging.

Support innovative research and serve as a willing collaborator with clinical and translational researchers.

Division of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics The Theranostics Center at Banner – University Medical Center and the University of Arizona – Tucson is a Comprehensive Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Center of Excellence.

Nuclear Medicine is offered at all three Tucson locations: BUMC‑T, BUMC‑S, and BUMC‑N. Scanners include Siemens Bold and Intevo SPECT/CTs, GE Discovery 640 SPECT/CT, Siemens Gamma Evo, two GE 530c’s for dedicated cardiac imaging, and a GE Discovery MI Digital PET/CT, GE Omni Legend 32 cm PET/CT.

The division offers a variety of studies, including oncology and advanced general nuclear medicine imaging such as brain metabolism/perfusion, myocardial perfusion and gating, bone, liver, lung, GI, sentinel lymph node, and dopamine transporter imaging.

Pediatric imaging.

Theranostic services—including 131I, 223Ra, and 177Lu—for both FDA‑approved PET tracers and research protocols, plus 90Y liver ablation therapies in conjunction with IR.

Fantastic inter‑division and inter‑department collaborations.

Participation in tumor boards.

Residents and medical student education.

A dedicated nuclear medicine fellowship and participation in the dual DR/NM 4‑year program.

Department Overview The Department of Medical Imaging is one of 17 clinical departments in the UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson, providing medical care through Banner University Health. The clinical caseload supports our training programs, including Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology Residencies and multiple accredited fellowship training programs. Medical Imaging hosts an ACGME accredited Nuclear Radiology/PET‑CT Fellowship Program approved for two candidates.

The department serves the two main hospitals—Banner University Medical Center – Tucson (BUMC‑T, 479 licensed beds) and Banner University Medical Center – South (BUMC‑S, 150 licensed beds)—and the Diamond Children’s Medical Center, as well as two outpatient centers: Banner University Medicine‑North (BUMC‑N) and the Advanced Breast Imaging Center, ABIC.

World‑Class Facilities Banner – University Medical Center Tucson opened its new nine‑story, $446 million hospital tower (Tower 1) on April 22, 2019. The 670,000‑square‑foot teaching hospital features 228 private rooms, 20 new operating rooms, new diagnostic imaging, and cardiac catheterization labs. Tower 1 offers two 1.5T and one 3T MR scanners. BUMC‑South offers a 1.5T MR scanner, and two 3T MR scanners are located at BUMC‑North.
