Position Temporary Phlebotomist (Phlebotomist III) – North End Health Center, 332 Hanover Street, Boston, MA.

Job Summary Under the direction of a registered nurse, support the multidisciplinary health care team in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Assist with activities of daily living including feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfer, and continence.

Perform preventive skin care, set up food trays, feed patients, assist with positioning, turning, mobilization, ambulation, and passive/active range of motion per plan.

Apply pneumatic sequential compression sleeves and anti‑embolic stockings.

Adhere to standard precautions and hand hygiene guidelines.

Orient patients, ensure safekeeping of patient valuables, pack and store belongings, check patient ID bands.

Respond to call lights, provide constant patient observation for injury risk, reapply restraints/roll belts.

Draw blood via venipuncture or skin puncture for infants, children, teens, adults, and elders; obtain urine and other specimens for culture.

Explain safety protocols; perform venipuncture and skin puncture; maintain knowledge of phlebotomy and specimen collection requirements.

Verify patient identification against requisition prior to and at the end of specimen collection.

Determine appropriate tubes for tests, estimate quantity of blood, assemble equipment, order of draw, label tubes accurately.

Prepare samples for storage/transportation and log transport activity.

Follow safety policies, notify Nurse Manager of unsafe conditions.

Assist in delivering and collating patient reports; arrange STAT specimen transport to MGH or Quest Diagnostics.

Respond to lab emergencies such as syncope during venipuncture.

Assist nurse manager with annual waived testing for other phlebotomists, MAs, LPNs, RNs.

Provide laboratory orientation and training for new phlebotomists and allied staff.

Qualifications & Preferred Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Graduated from a training program that includes phlebotomy skills (MA, Phlebotomist, EMT, CNA, or equivalent).

Current Basic CPR certification.

Phlebotomy certification or other accredited training program; national phlebotomy certification preferred.

Five or more years of prior phlebotomy experience in an ambulatory health care facility.

Ability to work with all age groups; comfort in a practice environment promoting process improvement.

Epic experience and computer skills required.

Knowledge of Italian and/or Spanish helpful but not required.

Commitment to patient satisfaction and adherence to infection control and hand hygiene protocols.

Strong clinical competencies to manage POCT.

Additional Job Details

Schedule: Mon–Fri, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

Hours: 36 h / week (on site).

Type: Temporary.

Work Shift: Day.

Pay Range: $17.36 – $23.80 /hr (grade 2).

Note: This is a temporary position and not benefits eligible.

Location: 332 Hanover Street, North End Health Center.
