Senior Vehicle Electrical Engineer
BOSTON, MA – Hatch is looking for a highly motivated senior engineer to join our North American Infrastructure division in the Vehicle Electrical group.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in rail vehicle electrical systems design and maintenance (Streetcars, LRVs, Heavy Rail Transit Cars, Commuter Cars, Locomotives). Transit Authority engineering and maintenance experience is a plus. Working knowledge of core electrical engineering concepts (analog/digital circuit design, power engineering, networking/telecommunications, AC/DC motor theory, control systems, and software development EMI/EMC) is required. Familiarity with APTA, FRA, IEEE, IEC/EN, NFPA, and other rail vehicle design standards is expected. Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills, strong teamwork, and a willingness to travel domestically and internationally are essential. PE registration is desirable but not required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop technical specifications and conceptual designs for new and upgraded rail vehicles and onboard systems.
Participate in design review meetings and technical working sessions with carbuilders and equipment suppliers.
Review electrical and electro‑mechanical designs, prepare detailed descriptions of review findings.
Lead or participate in new equipment qualification efforts at supplier facilities and on trains, including functional testing, electrical performance, environmental, and electromagnetic compatibility.
Prepare and review rail vehicle and vehicle onboard systems test procedures.
Perform hands‑on engineering work with rail transit vehicles, including testing, investigation of equipment malfunctions, and condition assessments.
Mentor and educate junior engineers.

Base Compensation: $150,000 – $175,000 (actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skill set, and location).
