Director, Human Centered Weather Forecasts Join the University of Chicago as Director of the Human Centered Weather Forecasts (HCF) initiative, an interdisciplinary effort led by Professors Michael Kremer, Pedram Hassanzadeh, and Amir Jina. The HCF initiative expands access to high‑quality weather forecasts in low‑ and middle‑income countries, leveraging cutting‑edge AI and interdisciplinary expertise to support adaptation and resilience.

Pay Range $107,950.00 – $139,700.00 per year (salary)

Department SSD Development Economics Center: Staff and Temporary Employees, part of the Development Innovation Lab.

Job Summary The Director will own and lead the HCF initiative from conception through completion. Responsibilities include partnership and stakeholder engagement, fundraising, event preparation, and delivery of initiative goals while collaborating with faculty leads and external partners.

Responsibilities

Lead oversight of the initiative, track priorities, manage meeting agendas and action items, oversee budgets and reporting, and ensure execution of initiative goals.

Lead fundraising efforts, draft proposals, and build relationships with potential donors.

Work closely with faculty leads to prepare leaders for high‑level events and manage engagements.

Coordinate testing and scaling of improved weather forecasts, creating policy‑relevant resources such as concept notes and policy memos.

Engage researchers on validating, generating, and disseminating forecasts for LMICs.

Provide guidance, training, and support to junior staff and project team members; support recruitment efforts.

Act as a subject‑matter expert, interpret complex issues, and provide analytical guidance.

Lead vendor integration and review vendor deliverables.

Perform related duties as needed.

Education Minimum: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics, public policy, or a related field.

Qualifications

7+ years of experience managing complex projects in relevant domains.

Strong track record of independent problem‑solving and collaboration with cross‑functional teams.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and high attention to detail.

Preferred Competencies

Judgment and policy acumen to advance the initiative’s mission.

Leadership of local or virtual teams with natural authority.

Adaptability and drive to navigate uncertainty.

Prioritization and multi‑project management capabilities.

Working Conditions

Travel as required.

Hybrid position: approximately 3 days on campus per week, with flexible office presence.
