Job Summary
The
Specialty Unit Staff RN - NICU
leads a health‑care team, providing professional nursing care by utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. The RN demonstrates performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan, remains flexible to changing systems, and treats co‑workers, patients, families, and all members of the health‑care team with dignity and respect.
Essential Responsibilities The Registered Nurse demonstrates proficiency by exhibiting the following skills, competencies, and behaviors:

Nursing Process
Develops or contributes to the individualized plan of care that reflects assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes.
Ensures multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education, and reflects admission or outpatient database, ongoing findings, age‑appropriate care, cultural needs, and appropriate acuity.
Ensures the plan is discussed with patient, family/significant others, and completed in a timely manner.
Monitors patient progress based on the plan and revises the plan on an ongoing basis.
Ensures care meets standards of practice and that discharge plans are completed, including barriers, patient/family education, and clear understanding of instructions.
Reduces risk of medication or procedural errors, falls, decubitus ulcers, and nosocomial infections while ensuring optimal pain control and patient comfort.
Ensures patients understand medication purpose, side effects, and administration instructions both in the hospital and at discharge.
Documentation
Charting is accurate, legible, dated, and timed.
Documentation reflects nursing process and interventions and evaluations taken.
Utilizes computer systems effectively and efficiently for optimal patient care.
Clinical Outcomes
Discusses patient findings and progress toward outcomes with physicians and other members of the health‑care team.
Demonstrates competencies during the probationary period and ongoing completion by departmental competency validation.
Make comprehensive nursing decisions based on interpretation of data, assessments, and evaluations of patient outcomes.
Participates in departmental performance improvement activities, including planning, measuring, monitoring, assessing, and improving.
Workplace Safety
Adheres to LMP Workplace Safety principles and practices.
Applies standard precautions and maintains a safe environment for self and others.
Patient Care Experience
Practices customer service standards as defined by the Service Area, Medical Center, and specified department.
Responds promptly to call lights, alarms, and patient requests.
Facilitates appropriate referrals and enables patients to utilize resources.
Maintains and protects patient confidentiality.
Ensures a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.
Treats all families of patients with courtesy, respect, kindness, and compassion.

Organizes work to minimize use of overtime.
Identifies and assists in systems improvements needing simplification or correction.
Utilizes payroll and non‑payroll resources to maximum potential.
Experience 1‑year recent (within the last 3 years) full‑time equivalent experience in Level‑III NICU or successful completion of KP Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) course or approved equivalent within prior 12 months.
Basic Qualifications
Registered Nurse License (California)
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Additional Requirements
May be expected to cross‑train to at least one other perinatal area.

Will work every other weekend.
If the 12‑hour shift option is chosen, the shift will be 7:00 pm–7:30 am. A backup 8‑hour shift will be 11:00 pm–7:30 am.
