Department Police Safety Department

Location City College of San Francisco, Ocean Campus and other centers.

Salary Range $53.69 – $65.26 hourly; $111,680 – $135,748 annually

Appointment Type Classified - Provisional. This is a temporary provisional (TPV) position. It will be subject to the permanent civil service examination process at a later date.

Job Description Under the direction of the Chief of Police or designee, the Institutional Police Sergeant supervises and is responsible for the work of subordinate law enforcement officers, security officers, and other civilian staff. The role includes the overall administration of an institution security program, enforcement of city and state laws, coordination with the San Francisco Police Department, preparation of daily and special reports, management of parking enforcement, CLERY reporting, training program compliance with POST, payroll management, safety training, and community outreach.

Responsibilities

Acts emergency operations manager in the absence of Institutional Police Lieutenant and Chief of College Police for the purpose of maintaining safety and implementing emergency procedures.

Administers first aid to students, staff and visitors.

Arrests individuals engaging in illegal activities.

Assists community law enforcement personnel.

Collaborates with community agencies for investigation and resolution of cases.

Communicates with students, staff, and visitors regarding safety and security policies.

Enforces college policies and student conduct.

Escorts students, assigned personnel, and visitors to ensure safety.

Initiates disciplinary action.

Investigates potential campus crimes and student related incidents.

Monitors campus activity during events.

Oversees department activities and day-to-day operations.

Participates in unit meetings, training, and workshops.

Patrols college facilities.

Performs inspections and prepares documents.

Provides institutional processes for traffic and parking control.

Recommends improvements to department policies.

Reports safety issues to maintenance department.

Responds to inquiries regarding campus security issues.

Responds to various situations such as accidents, injuries, vandalism.

Schedules work hours and assignments.

Testifies in court proceedings.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Three (3) years of experience as a police officer or member of a military police unit.

Valid California driver license.

Basic POST Certificate issued by California Department of Justice.

Associate degree in Criminal Justice may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.

California POST Intermediate Certificate (desirable).

California POST Supervisory Certificate (desirable).

3 years experience as a sworn police officer (desirable).
