Overview Control Engineers are responsible for designing, developing, installing, and maintaining equipment used to monitor and control systems, machinery, and processes. They work in various applications including industrial controls, cybersecurity, building automation, water/wastewater, power controls and protection, energy management, and transportation systems. Control Engineers are technical experts in areas such as advanced process control, instrumentation, distributed control systems, PLCs, and SCADA systems. They use these skills to design and implement solutions to meet our customers' complex needs.
Responsibilities Design / Engineering
Develop design documents for small projects and support large programs.
Prepare narrative design documents, perform requirements analysis, and subsystem designs (CAD, panels, layouts, wiring, SCADA screens, hardware, communications).
Prepare specifications and perform QA/QC and technical reviews of designs.
Create plans, procedures, and fixtures for integrated systems factory testing, including internal/external comment resolution.
Programming
Lead programming/configuration efforts for complex automation and SCADA applications.
Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, and HMI systems.
Test, troubleshoot, deploy, and commission systems.
Author testing and commissioning procedures, prepare test reports, develop test fixtures and simulation devices.
Perform factory and field testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting on service calls, including hardware/software upgrades.
Managerial Responsibilities
Estimate project costs and conduct site surveys, inspections, and tours.
Prepare cost estimates and support documents for small projects, assist in bids and proposals, and evaluate change orders.
Personnel Management
Assign tasks and coordinate with entry-level engineers and technical staff.
Qualifications Field Experience
Reading electrical/control schematics, control system startup, configuration, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and using electrical/machinist tools.
Experience with industry-specific tools/software, computer networks, CAD/CAE (AutoCAD/EPLAN), and standard office software.
Minimum Requirements
Proficiency in programming languages such as ladder logic and structured text.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with PLC/DDC platforms like Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Tridium Niagara, ABB, Omron, KMC Controls, Johnson Controls Metasys, Honeywell WEBS, and others.
Experience with SCADA platforms such as Wonderware, Ignition, GE Digital, Siemens WinCC, Rockwell FactoryTalk, and others.
Preferred Licenses / Certifications
Design Build Institute of America (DBIA), Certified SCADA Security Architect (CSSA), Certified Automation Professional (CAP), Engineer in Training (EIT), and platform-specific certifications.
Experience with VTScada, water/wastewater projects is a plus.
Education / Experience
Master's in electrical or automation engineering with 0+ years or Bachelor's with 2+ years of experience.
Abilities
Extended screen time, sitting, reaching, finger dexterity, listening, speaking, reading, applying rules, and understanding speech.
