Primary Purpose T&S Standards are responsible for maintaining and developing new standards and engineering practices that ensure standardized, efficient, safe, and cost‑effective designs. The position focuses on Overhead Transmission Line Engineering Design Standards for voltages of 765 kV, 345 kV, 138 kV, and 69 kV.

T&S Standards encompass Engineering Practices, Engineering Standard Practices, Material Specifications, Construction Specifications, and Generic Design Drawings. Responsibilities include reviewing, updating, and facilitating the development of T&S design standards while working closely with the T&S groups to ensure effective standard implementation. The role provides technical expertise to strategic, legislative, and operational decisions and collaborates with other Exelon companies in creating, updating, and applying internal/industry design standards and technology.

Position may require extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties

Serve as a subject‑matter expert for a specific class of T&S Standards, including Engineering Practices, Engineering Standard Practices, Material Specifications, Construction Specifications, and Generic Design Drawings.

Act as point of contact for technical questions related to material application and design standards.

Work with vendors on material design improvements and implementation.

Collaborate with equipment specialists, relay & protection, substation engineering, transmission engineering, capacity planning, transmission planning, testing & commissioning engineering, field groups, and others to set design and material standards and applications while ensuring safety, effectiveness, and constructability.

Perform assignments while acting independently and may lead multi‑discipline teams.

Provide recommendations for management and implement action plans to improve reliability.

Provide detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others.

Interface with applicable industry groups such as IEEE, EPRI, EEI, MEA, etc. to introduce new design improvements and materials.

Investigate common points of failure modes and trends for the purpose of material or design standard improvements and support analysis of extent of condition.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer.

Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.

Knowledge and ability to apply problem‑solving approaches and engineering theory.

Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices.

Knowledge of complex field test equipment.

4–7 years of professional engineering experience.

Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles necessary to perform very complex or unique assignments.

Minimum of two related career experiences OR Engineer in Training.

50% complete (by hours) with advanced technical degree, MBA, or Project Management Certification.

Master’s degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by one year. License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing. PE License reduces the OJT experience requirement by one year.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed Professional Engineer.

Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate with all management levels.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

A working knowledge of applicable analysis software packages.

Ability to analyze industry‑wide trends and implement enhancements.

Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $90,400.00/Yr. – $124,300.00/Yr.
