After School Counselor - Brooklyn New York Edge

Base pay: $17.00/hr – $17.00/hr (pay varies with experience and skills).

Summary New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the part‑time role of Academic Enrichment Coach. You will provide a safe and positive environment for school‑age children, facilitate learning activities, support homework and skill building, and participate in activities and trips.

Schedule Part‑time, Monday–Friday, 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm (in‑person).

Essential Job Functions

Provide appropriate supervision at all times to ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of program participants.

Act as a safety agent for campers, responsible for their well‑being and that of others.

Inform the immediate supervisor daily of any concerns involving participants, staff, or the facility.

Engage participants in meaningful, age‑appropriate activities, lesson plans, and special events that are structured, fun, exciting, and challenging, based on values in arts, STEM, character development, literacy, creative expression, community service, physical fitness, and nutrition.

Prepare the learning environment and supplies for program activities, maintaining cleanliness and organization.

Support planning and implementation of all activities, including learning initiatives, field trips, and culminating performances.

Assist Activity Specialists with activity implementation.

Create and maintain a strength‑based, youth‑focused atmosphere respectful of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.

Serve as a positive role model for participants.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child’s strengths and growth areas, and provide updates.

Attend all required training sessions, meetings, and special events.

Ensure appropriate group ratios.

Reliable communication/computer devices and internet access at home.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old.

High School Diploma required; some college preferred.

Experience working with children strongly preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

May be required to walk up and down stairs.

May need to lift or move objects/materials.

Work is performed mostly within a NYC public school but may involve trips or events with the community.

Additional Requirements At offer and acceptance, safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health are required.
