A leading global law firm recognized for steering clients through major transactions and high-stakes litigation is seeking an experienced Managing Attorney to join its senior leadership team and help drive excellence in court filing and docketing operations. Based in Washington, D.C., the Managing Attorney will lead the implementation of best practices for electronic filing and docketing while serving as a key advisor in ensuring smooth, compliant, and efficient litigation support.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct legal research to advise litigators on procedural issues and ensure adherence to relevant court rules.
Provide guidance to attorneys on motion practice, policies, and procedures in D.C. federal and state courts, as well as courts in nearby jurisdictions.
Assist with matters related to service of process, including coordinating with process servers.
Track new cases and rule updates to keep attorneys informed of changes to D.C. rules, the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure.
Manage electronic case filings through CM/ECF and state court systems, and coordinate hard-copy filings and document retrieval as needed.
Pull and analyze information from court databases and legal research tools such as PACER, Bloomberg Law, CourtAlert, and Westlaw.
Review incoming court communications and calculate deadlines for entry into the firm’s docketing system.
Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy and consistency across docketing and calendar entries.
Notify attorneys promptly of filing deadlines, hearings, and other key dates.
Maintain and update attorney information, including bar admissions and e-filing credentials.
Qualifications
Prior supervisory experience within a Managing Attorney’s Office at a large law firm is strongly preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, court personnel, and staff.
Thorough understanding of D.C. federal and state courts, including relevant rules and procedures.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines, work efficiently under pressure, and adapt to changing priorities.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
Admission to the Washington, D.C. Bar is required.
At least five years of experience working in a Managing Attorney’s Office at a large law firm.
