Affordable Homeownership offered by Habitat for Humanity in Seattle/King County

Helps low-income individuals and families attain home ownership. New houses are built through contributions and volunteer labor and are then sold to carefully screened families. May be able to subsidize the thirty-party mortgage. Recipients are required to contribute 250 hours of "sweat equity" labor. On average builds 10-20 homes per year.Some homes are set aside for veteran applicants. Call or check website for updated application information.Applicants must attend a homeowner orientation, complete an application, and participate in an interview.Once a family has applied and been accepted by Habitat for Humanity, it takes 3-6 months for rehabilitation homes and 12-18 months to build new homes. Fee Participants must meet monthly mortgage payments. Mortgage payment is set at 30% of gross income. Individuals or families with a need for housing and annual income of 30-60% of the Area Median Income. If applicant is a veteran, annual income must be 30-80% Area Median Income.Family’s total debt (house payment plus all others) must be no more than 43% of family’s gross income.Applicant families must be credit worthy. Any bankruptcies filed during the past three years must be reconciled and all liens or judgments must be paid in full before purchasing a Habitat home. Languages Service area King, WA Agency info
