Job Opportunity: Pharmacist at UPMC Altoona

The position is full-time, evening shift, every other weekend, including holidays. The hours are from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. We are offering a sign-on bonus of $15,000 for a 2-year commitment or $30,000 for a 3-year commitment. Purpose:

Pharmacist Specialists are responsible for providing safe, effective, and cost-effective pharmacotherapy. They support specialized areas within medication-use systems to deliver optimal therapy, participate in all aspects of medication management and pharmacy operations, and may focus on areas such as pharmacy informatics, research, sterile compounding, medication safety, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement. They play a key role in assessing, detecting, mitigating, and preventing medication-related adverse events and ensure compliance with regulations. Pharmacists also serve as resources and liaisons to healthcare teams and external groups, support quality initiatives, and provide education and training to pharmacy students and residents. Responsibilities:

Interpret and evaluate physician orders and prescriptions to prepare, calculate, and dispense appropriate medications for inpatient and outpatient care, complying with state and federal regulations. Report suspected adverse drug reactions promptly. Maintain formulary integrity by minimizing non-formulary procurements and promoting rational drug therapy. Review patient medication records for allergies, interactions, and duplications, and verify medication orders. Organize daily pharmacy operations and supervise pharmacy staff and students. Adhere to all regulatory standards, professional practices, and hospital policies. Communicate effectively with physicians and nurses to clarify orders. Provide drug information and educational programs to healthcare professionals and students. Utilize computer systems and technological resources in pharmaceutical care. Prepare and dispense intravenous solutions using aseptic techniques in sterile environments. Additional site-specific duties may apply.
