The Harker School seeks Lower and Middle School Coaches for the 20252026 athletic seasons. Seasonal prep and coaching roles begin as early asAugust 23 and run throughMay 13 , depending on sport assignment.

Hourly Range: $17.95 $25.00/hour

Position Summary

The Lower and Middle School Coach is responsible for assisting or leading the coaching and development of student-athletes in grades 48 (ages 913). The coach will support the overall athletic program by promoting skill development, discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. This role includes managing practices, guiding players during competitions, and ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants.

Lower School Sports (Grades 45)

  • Softball: MonFri, 3:005:30 PM | Aug 23 Oct 8
  • Girls Soccer: MonFri, 3:005:30 PM | Oct 13 Dec 17
  • Girls Basketball: MonFri, 3:005:30 PM | Jan 5 Mar 4
  • Girls Volleyball: MonFri, 3:005:30 PM | Mar 9 May 13

Middle School Sports (Grades 68)

  • Flag Football: MonFri, 3:005:30 PM | Aug 26 Oct 10
  • Boys Basketball: MonFri, 3:005:30 PM | Oct 13 Dec 12
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years of age (18+ preferred for head coach roles)
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Comfortable working with and around school-age children
  • First Aid/CPR certification required
  • 12 years of coaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of and/or background in the sport of interest
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coach and supervise students in practices and games
  • Assist in or lead the development of practice plans and game strategies
  • Effectively manage student-athlete groups to ensure engagement, safety, and skill growth
  • Maintain accurate attendance and participation records
  • Communicate regularly with the Athletic Director, other coaches, students, and parents
  • Stay up-to-date with weekly athletic communications and program updates
  • Support team logistics and complete assigned duties as needed
  • Other Responsibilities

  • Attend required coaches meetings and seasonal parent meetings
  • Uphold and model fair play and sportsmanship
  • Ensure student safety and behavior during travel to and from away games
  • Perform additional duties related to the coaching assignment as required
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to coach students ages 913
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and positively influence young athletes
  • Organizational skills for managing practices and team logistics
  • Working Conditions

  • Requires standing and active movement for extended periods
  • Outdoor practices and games may involve exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Some evening and weekend availability required during sports seasons
