General Summary The custodian/janitor of the Chilton County Commission shall be responsible for custodial services of the commission's office buildings, performing janitorial duties that involve cleaning and sanitizing the buildings. Primary Responsibilities Determine materials, equipment, and supplies to be used and transfer equipment from one project to another as required. Inspect accurate inventory of all janitorial supplies. Sanitize, sweep, dust, mop, wash, vacuum, polish, and wax floors; clean windows, woodwork, furniture, and equipment. Clean toilet facilities and keep restrooms supplied with towels, soap, and other items; collect and dispose of trash from buildings and grounds. Clean all offices, lobbies, bathrooms, coffee room, copy rooms, squad rooms, hallways, visitation building areas‑inside and outside, and keep them free of clutter and trash. Ensure that safety and health procedures are followed as directed by Facilities Manager and/or established policy. Physical Abilities Job may require intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing. Job may involve lifting 50 pounds or more, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. Tasks may also involve standing or sitting for long periods of time. Education / Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred. Ability to reason: confront and solve basic practical issues and problems. Transportation to and from work. Pass a background check. Licenses Valid Alabama driver’s license. Work performed meets position requirements and quality tolerance standards. Works with other team members to achieve group goals by contributing ideas in group settings. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Coordinate several activities at once. Maintain concentrated visual attention to detail for an extended period of time. Prioritize and exercise good judgment under stressful circumstances. Identify suspicious activities. Maintain information as extremely sensitive and confidential. Deal tactfully and courteously with employees, vendors, contractors, and the public. Perform various clean‑up and maintenance tasks as needed. Update inventories and supplies as needed. Knowledge of basic cleaning: vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping, garbage collection, bathroom cleaning. Knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions. Basic knowledge of equipment used in daily duties. Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures. Keep cleaning safety sheet logs and follow label directions. Perform physical labor, including outside work such as cleaning walkways. Understand written and oral instructions and follow directions on dangerous chemicals. Knowledge of hazmat disposal.
