Practice Manager (Intellectual Property)
Paul Hastings is a leading international law firm that provides innovative legal solutions to many of the world’s top financial institutions and Fortune Global 500 companies. We are seeking a Practice Manager to support the Intellectual Property Litigation practice and drive operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Director of Practice Management, practice chairs, partners, and business‑operations departments to develop and execute strategic plans focused on revenue, profitability, headcount, and brand differentiation.
Analyze financial performance with Finance to monitor time‑keeper hours, performance trends, and overall practice revenue, providing actionable insights.
Partner with Talent to manage workforce allocation, performance issues, and headcount adjustments in line with workflow demands.
Coordinate lateral attorney onboarding efforts with business‑operations teams.
Oversee day‑to‑day operations: budgeting, meeting frameworks, billing and collections processes, matter intake, classification, and follow‑up on initiatives.
Serve as a point of contact for in‑house legal‑operations teams to enhance client engagement and delivery efficiency.
Support continuous improvement, process innovation, and technology adoption across Practice Groups and the firm.
Assist Practice Chairs with preparation for meetings, retreats, and other leadership activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (required); JD or MBA preferred.
Minimum 4 years practicing law or working in practice‑management/operations, with emphasis on litigation practices, preferred.
Strong business acumen and analytical skills with proven project‑management experience.
Experience driving continuous improvement, technology integration, and infrastructure enhancements in a complex, global professional services environment.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio).
Ability to handle diverse responsibilities, work independently, and thrive in fast‑paced, high‑pressure settings.
Demonstrated confidence in interacting with senior leadership and a strong work ethic.
Salary & Benefits Salary range: $145,900 – $211,600 per year, excluding bonuses. Pay is performance‑based and may vary by experience, education, certifications, and location. This position is exempt (no overtime).
