Base pay range $200,000.00/yr - $400,000.00/yr

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines the award amount (up to $200,000) and the eligibility period (one to five years) after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy

Education: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved VA school for the year of completion

License: Current‑full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia

Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include ACGME, AOA, or other residencies followed by a minimum of five years of verified U.S. practice deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.

Residents currently enrolled in accredited residency training programs who meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis. They are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; instead they have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.

Physical Requirements: Long periods of walking, standing, and sitting; light lifting; reaching overhead; bending, stooping; routine computer use; close visual acuity for analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a terminal, extensive reading, and repetitive wrist/hands/fingers motions. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations and shifting priorities as needed.

Must complete annual Employee Health requirements such as TB screening or testing.

Work Environment: Health care setting with adequate lighting, heating, and cooling. Exposure to infection and possible contagious diseases with standard precautions. Occasional requirement for violence training if responding to physical or verbal abuse by patients.

Duties

VHA Physician Total Rewards: comprehensive package including Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, and paid time off: 50‑55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, plus up to 5 days paid CME).

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) + 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution.

Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care (many federal programs can be carried into retirement).

Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification).

Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage.

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.

Provide educational instruction and training for University of Oklahoma residents/fellows assigned to Gastroenterology rotations at the VA.

Review medical histories and conduct detailed physical exams.

Interpret laboratory and diagnostic results.

Diagnose GI conditions and assist or perform procedures.

Assess and treat patients in inpatient and outpatient areas.

Perform screening examinations, History & Physical exams, and progress notes.

Perform basic diagnostic procedures.

Prescribe inpatient and outpatient medications.

Write appropriate orders for inpatient and/or outpatient treatment.

Participate in on‑call rotation.

Work Schedule: Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.
