This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a Water/Wastewater Lead Design Engineer for our Baltimore, MD office. The ideal candidate will lead in assessment, design and plan production for water/wastewater and/or stormwater projects such as water/wastewater infrastructure design/assessment/rehabilitation, including conveyance, treatment, and facility design; may also support with drainage design of open and closed systems and hydrologic/hydraulic analysis.
Your Impact
Perform high-level professional water resources engineering work and conduct investigations, analysis, and inspections relating to water/wastewater infrastructure design/upgrades, water supply/quality/management, stormwater facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, waste disposal, and pollution control and treatment activities to avert the contamination and degradation of water resources and determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, clean-up, or address environmental issues or problems.
Perform concept level design of treatment works and analyze hydrologic and hydraulic models and computations for storm water and watershed master planning, stream restoration, and water quality studies.
Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing mid-level projects including project budgets, tracking hours and expenses, and task completion.
Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
Remain current in latest water resources engineering techniques.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline
10 to 15 years of relevant post education experience in water/wastewater engineering and/or water resources.
PE License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Experience and working knowledge of the following:
CADD production and civil design software skills (MicroStation Power InRoads/OpenRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3D)
Civil 3D pipe network and/or pressure network experience is a plus
Hydraulic Design for pipe and channels
Design of water, wastewater, or stormwater pump station facilities
Water/wastewater treatment plant design experience
Water /wastewater process modeling experience
Knowledge of GIS software and applications (e.g., Arc GIS, etc.)
Self-starter with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently with some supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in the above-referenced disciplines
Maryland, Virginia, and/or D.C. Professional Engineering License or on track to take exam within a 6 months of hire.
Maryland P.E. license is preferred.
Affiliations with professional societies and active industry and community involvement are highly desirable
PMP is plus
Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $98,300 - $175,230
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
