Your Impact
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-availability cloud services that are critical to our mission of protecting life. You’ll architect backend APIs and user-facing components, contribute across the full stack, and proactively identify technical opportunities and risks. You’ll bring a systems-thinking approach to performance, reliability, and integration challenges—proposing innovative solutions and helping shape technical direction across multiple teams. Beyond your technical contributions, you will act as a multiplier for the team. You’ll mentor other engineers, influence architectural decisions, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to drive key initiatives forward. You will participate in hiring, lead design and code reviews, and help establish engineering best practices that raise the bar for quality, security, and scalability. Work Location
This role is based out of our Seattle Office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation.
What You’ll Do
Lead architecture design discussions and perform in-depth code reviews to uphold quality, security, and scalability across systems.
Own and deliver complex, cross-functional features in collaboration with Product and Design, from scoping to production launch.
Establish and uphold engineering best practices to ensure code quality, system performance, and long-term maintainability.
Partner with internal teams and external agencies to make public safety data accessible, secure, and actionable.
Influence peers, advise senior leaders, and coach junior engineers to accelerate team growth and technical excellence.
Drive cross-team collaboration and knowledge-sharing across Axon engineering to scale impact and foster a culture of excellence.
Build services that adhere to our high bar on availability and latency in this mission-critical space.
Leverage AI to bring about exciting new customer experiences.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
6–10 years of experience building and scaling production systems, with a proven track record of technical leadership.
Demonstrated ability to make tough technical and architectural decisions based on requirements, constraints, and long-term trade-offs.
Extensive backend development experience in languages such as Java, Go, or Scala, with a focus on scalable, high-availability services.
Deep experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design, performance optimization, and data modeling for scalability.
Expertise designing and operating cloud-native systems in Azure, AWS, or GCP, with a strong understanding of system reliability, security, and observability.
