Geico is looking to hire an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in New York courts and other first‑party insurance defense. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel covering Queens/Melville, Bronx or Brooklyn courts.

Base pay range $118,900.00–$186,550.00 per year

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.

Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.

Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations, and defense by trial or dispositive hearing for all assigned matters.

Qualifications

2–6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.

Juris Doctor degree (required).

Admission to the New York Bar (required).

Licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet continuing legal education requirements.

Must be able to travel for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

Strong written communication skills and ability to document files clearly and professionally.

Able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and manage priorities and multiple tasks.

Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

Preferred Qualifications

Civil litigation experience.

Insurance defense‑related litigation experience.

Professional communication via phone, email, and in person.

Location Remote (may require travel to New York courts).
