Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Engineer (Houston, TX)

Job Overview This role requires deep technical expertise and hands‑on experience in the test and manufacturing engineering of complex power systems across various voltage levels. The Senior Electrical Engineer will act as a technical lead on complex projects, ensure compliance with industry standards, and mentor junior staff under the direction of the Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development of test and manufacturing engineering processes, equipment, and tooling for systems ranging from 13.8 kV to 138 kV, including Gas‑Insulated Substations, medium‑voltage distribution transformers, and switchgear.
Perform detailed engineering calculations, modeling, and simulations for electrical parameters.
Develop, review, and approve critical engineering manufacturing and test process documentation; verify BOMs and system parameters in collaboration with Document Control.
Conduct substation retrofits, expansions, and integration with control systems and DCS/SCADA platforms.
Participate in technical design reviews for major equipment packages such as transformers and switchgear.
Provide hands‑on field support: commissioning, troubleshooting complex issues, and conducting root‑cause failure analysis.
Ensure product designs meet regulatory and customer requirements (IEEE, ANSI/NEMA, UL).
Develop and oversee test plans (routine, type, special) to validate design performance and reliability.
Provide advanced technical support to Quality and Manufacturing teams to resolve non‑conformance issues and drive root‑cause analysis.
Serve as the technical lead on cross‑functional product development projects, aligning scope, schedule, and budget.
Coach and mentor less‑experienced engineers and designers.
Stay current with emerging MV technologies, standards, and best practices.
Collaborate with sales and proposals teams to define technical solutions for custom customer specifications.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE); Master’s degree and/or PE license preferred.
Over 10 years of direct, relevant experience in substation engineering and/or power distribution.
Deep technical knowledge of high‑voltage electrical equipment and distribution systems.
Strong understanding of industry standards (IEEE, NEC, ANSI/NEMA).
Demonstrated experience in project and team coordination.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Full‑time on‑site function required.
Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; work at an ITAR facility.
