Job Opportunity The City of Berkeley is seeking PE‑licensed candidates who are passionate about improving infrastructure for a more sustainable and resilient city. As an Associate Civil Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge and experience toward the creation and maintenance of state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure, amenities, and facilities.

When assigned to Public Works, you will contribute to exciting new projects across the City, including large mixed‑use buildings in downtown Berkeley and UC Berkeley projects that require review for impacts to public right‑of‑way. Other assignments include Construction Management and Inspection, Buildings/Facilities, and Streets.

When assigned to the Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department, you will function as a project leader for Capital Projects with an emphasis on engineering design. Capital improvement teams coordinate with stakeholders and manage contracts to get projects ready for bidding and construction.

Minimum Qualifications Typical requirements include graduation from a four‑year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering and three (3) years of professional engineering experience in design and construction work at a level equivalent to the Assistant Civil Engineer class. Progressively responsible experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year‑for‑year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Civil Engineer and a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
