Description Under general direction, the Preschool Occupational Therapist evaluates and treats children to facilitate rehabilitation and independence in daily living skills for children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Duties vary by program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluates children to establish learning and performance capabilities and develops a treatment plan to attain goals working within the scope of the student’s disability.

Develops a treatment plan and goal based on assessment.

Selects educational, recreational, and social activities to aid students in adjusting to their disability and teaches adaptive skills necessary to perform daily living and/or vocational tasks.

Participates in in‑service education for other patient‑care personnel relevant to techniques and objectives of the program.

Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews as required by each program.

Integrates therapeutic intervention techniques into programs or homes of persons served through consultation with parent/guardian and staff at team meetings, case conferences, or through other informal contacts.

Documents therapy activities and results on students’ records, and collaborates with teachers, social workers, nurses, and families.

Records progress on all active cases in therapy, monitors therapy status, and makes appropriate recommendations as changes occur.

Refers students to other clinical services when appropriate.

Designs, makes, and fits adaptive devices for student use such as splints, shoes or braces.

Trains and instructs program staff as required.

Assists with other duties such as arrival, dismissal, feeding, using the restroom, and classroom management.

Provides supervision to students and Occupational Therapy Assistants as needed.

Performs other related duties as requested.

Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.

1 year of prior Occupational Therapist experience preferred.

License / Certification Current NYS license in Occupational Therapy.

Compensation $47.28 per hour + industry‑leading benefits.
