Software Engineer - Solutions - Primefocus Health Primefocus Health is a seed‑stage healthtech startup headquartered in San Francisco, launched as a venture spin‑out from LG Electronics’ North America Innovation Center (LG NOVA). Engineering Manager We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering teams. This is a hands‑on leadership role focused on growing and supporting a team of engineers to develop secure, scalable microservices and mobile/web solutions for our healthcare platform. The ideal candidate will bring deep engineering expertise, strong people management skills, and a passion for driving technical execution in a mission‑driven startup environment. This position reports to the VP of Engineering and offers significant opportunity to influence product strategy and engineering excellence.

Work Setting This is a full‑time hybrid position based in West Virginia, with onsite presence as per the schedule proposed by the manager. Candidates should expect regular in‑person collaboration, and occasional travel (up to 15%) may be required across West Virginia, California, and New York for customer site visits, team offsites, or relevant industry events.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of 5–8 software engineers across backend and mobile app development

Provide mentorship, technical direction, and career support for engineers at all levels

Define engineering roadmaps and architectural strategy in partnership with the VP of Engineering

Oversee development of platform microservices and Flutter‑based mobile applications

Manage engineering delivery timelines, release planning, and sprint execution

Ensure all solutions are scalable, secure, and compliant with HIPAA and HITECH

Drive integration projects with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Allscripts)

Collaborate with product, clinical, and regulatory teams to deliver cross‑functional outcomes

Cultivate an inclusive, high‑performing team culture rooted in psychological safety and transparency

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field

2+ years of engineering management experience leading remote or hybrid teams

5+ years of hands‑on software development experience with clear progression into technical leadership roles

Experience in the U.S. healthcare technology sector, including EHR system integrations and regulatory compliance

Expertise in microservices architecture, distributed systems, and cloud‑native technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS)

Familiarity with mobile development using Flutter and an understanding of secure software development practices

Preferred Qualifications

Experience building and maintaining HIPAA‑compliant systems and solutions

Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows

Background in implementing audit logging and data encryption protocols

Fluency in agile delivery methods and cross‑functional stakeholder management

Ability to coach and scale high‑performing engineering teams

Strong emotional intelligence and systems thinking for team leadership and architecture

Experience working with connected health devices or Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) systems

Compensation Total compensation for this role is expected to fall within the range of

$130,000 to $180,000 annually , depending on experience, qualifications, and alignment with the responsibilities outlined. Additional equity and performance‑based incentives may be available.

You’ll help build healthcare software solutions that improve patient outcomes, while learning from experienced teammates and collaborating closely with cross‑functional partners. This position reports to the VP of Engineering and includes regular in‑person collaboration based on the manager’s schedule.

Design, develop, test, and maintain high‑quality code for patient‑centric healthcare solutions

Debug software defects and address performance and stability issues

Contribute to the development of new features in collaboration with product and design teams

Participate in sprint planning, estimation, code reviews, and retrospectives

Write and maintain technical documentation for systems, APIs, and workflows

Support testing, QA, and secure development practices in alignment with HIPAA requirements

Engage in professional development to improve programming and problem‑solving skills

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field

Hands‑on experience building web or mobile applications, including front‑end or full‑stack development

Strong academic foundation in software engineering, algorithms, and data structures

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with cryptography libraries or encryption/decryption frameworks

Exposure to secure coding best practices and handling sensitive data (ePHI, PII)

Hands‑on experience developing end‑to‑end solutions or mobile‑first applications

Demonstrated ability to contribute to cross‑functional team projects in Agile environments

Strong documentation skills and GitHub portfolio or equivalent work samples

Compensation Total compensation for this role is expected to fall within the range of

$70,000 to $110,000 annually , depending on experience, qualifications, and alignment with the responsibilities outlined. Additional equity and performance‑based incentives may be available.
