Performs maintenance, sustainment of existing networks, and identification/correction of issues.

Responsibilities

Resolve routine network problems; operate network analyzers, WAN test equipment, and network simulators.

Monitor data or voice system networks for various messages, alarms, or issues. Activate scripts as alarms occur or issues surface, confirm accuracy of messages or alarms, determine severity, and initiate resolution as appropriate.

Troubleshoot problems using scripts and standard, routine procedures; escalates as appropriate. Research issues to determine if they can be resolved using predefined procedures.

Resolve basic issues, document results, and communicate occurrence of alarms or issues and resulting actions taken to resolve or elevate problems.

Execute scheduled maintenance routines in accordance with standard procedures, identify issues or problems, resolve them as appropriate, and escalate when necessary.

Activate or deactivate network lines according to established schedules.

Perform first‑ and/or second‑level problem determination (first level is help desk).

Interface with users and/or network vendors.

Follow detailed work instructions.

Requirements

Two (2) years of experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

Associate’s degree in engineering technology from an accredited college (two (2) years of additional network engineering experience may be substituted for the degree).

Experience with installation and configuration of network devices such as firewalls, switches, routers, cabling, Cisco, Brocade, or Juniper devices.

Experience supporting WAN technologies such as SONET (OC3, OC48, OC192), DS3, T1, etc., as well as Taclanes/KG-175, MPLS, BGP, VPNs, etc.

Baseline IAT level II certification as defined by DoD 8570.01-M.

Required clearance: TS/SCI polygraph.

Desired certifications: CompTIA Network+, CCENT, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent.
