Job Description The Programmer Analyst IV provides senior‑level support under the ATMOS contract at NASA GSFC, leading software development for atmospheric science research. This role requires significant experience developing algorithms and high‑performance computing solutions for large‑scale data processing.
ATMOS is a NASA support services contract that provides advanced scientific, engineering, and technical expertise to enable Earth and space science missions. The program supports research, data analysis, technology development, and mission operations across multiple NASA centers. Through ATMOS, our teams deliver innovative solutions that help advance NASA’s mission and expand scientific discovery.
Key Responsibilities Include
Provide technical leadership for software development teams.
Develop and optimize large‑scale scientific codes.
Oversee integration and testing of software in mission workflows.
Contribute to publications and present research at scientific meetings.
Job Requirements
10+ years of experience in scientific programming.
At least 5 years in a leadership or mentoring role.
Proficiency with FORTRAN, C/C++, Python, IDL, MATLAB, and shell scripting.
Background in atmospheric or Earth sciences.
Education
M.S. in atmospheric science, physical science, mathematics, or computer science, or
B.S. degree in one of the listed disciplines, plus three years of experience relevant to the position. This experience is in addition to the experience required for the position level.
