Construction superintendents are responsible for the daily operations of a construction site from planning projects to overseeing their completion. Overseeing the means and methods, staffing, material and equipment needs. Duties vary depending on the type of construction each business conducts. Still, tasks generally include scheduling work to proceed according to a strict timeline, conducting audits and checks to ensure that work aligns with blueprints or client requests, and monitoring safety and compliance. Must have over 5+ years of supervisory experience in large-scale, heavy civil, water control, and deep excavation projects, with a strong team management skillset. Experience on Federal, USACE, NAFAC preferred—relocation consideration for qualified applications.

Position: Superintendent Location: Boca Raton, West Palm Beach County Area, Florida

General Job Duties of a Superintendent

Coordinate scheduling of subcontractors, consultants, inspectors and vendors to complete each project on time

Monitor work and materials to ensure quality control standards are met at various stages of the project

Communicate with the project team and support each subcontractor to execute his job duties effectively and efficiently

Perform inspections or schedule inspectors to meet the varying safety and compliance regulations of each job location

Participate in the management of daily operational issues, including maintaining schedules, planning and resource coordination, identifying and improving procedures, project staffing and ongoing project support, including personnel, equipment and materials

Plan and conduct weekly field meetings to update field staff on current project, staffing and equipment moves

Communicate effectively the project management team, schedules, budget and look-aheads

Maintain a written project documentation to include log of visitors, job actions performed, materials expended, and problems resolved on the job site

Travel between multiple job sites and simultaneously manage workloads of individual projects (based upon project size and overall experience)

Identify and resolve problems and conflicts, organizing meetings and cooperating with team members in various roles as necessary

Job Skills and Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of heavy civil projects in a Superintendent capacity Required

Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required

Relevant project experience: Large Water Control projects, Dams, Large diameter pipe, deep excavation and shoring

Ability to read, comprehend and build out construction drawings, specifications, architectural drawings and legal documentation

Strong ability to manage multiple priorities

Demonstrated and proven leadership ability

Basic knowledge of software programs, such as Master Builder, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, ProCore

Excellent ability to communicate and write reports and professional correspondence to vendors, clients, subcontractors etc.

Excellent reading comprehension for technical documents, such as safety regulations, assembly and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Excellent verbal communication skills, especially when addressing customers, clients or project meetings

Quality control of the project to identify non-compliance with regulations or standards, and the ability to suggest solutions for deficiencies or problems

Familiarity with the operation of office equipment, such as digital cameras, fax machines, computers, copiers, and telephones

Will need to complete hiring company background checks and pre-hiring requirements

Physical Requirements

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
